SBS 2008 - Client Machines fails with error code ‘0x80244019’ when trying to download using WSUS.

When running windows update from client we get ‘0x80244019’ .

Note- Make sure to check the windows update logs for more information and error codes
(Location - C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log)

More Information

Note - Browing http://Servername:8530/SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx from client we get the following error:

Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx

Cause

Object Code http 404 means - ‘Object not found’.
From the Client if you run :-
http://Servername:8530  - You would get Default Website Page , not WSUS.
From the  Server if you run :-
http://localhost:8530 should open WSUS Administration Site

Such an issue could occur if there is an additional binding for Port 8530 on Default Web Site .

Resolution
  • Open IIS Console
  • Expand Sites
  • Click on Default Website
  • In the Actions Pane - Under Edit Site , Click on Bindings
  • It will open Site Bindings Windows
  • Look for 8530 Port Information , remove it from the list
  • Do and iisreset

Now you should be able to browse the links and get updates from WSUS.
