Issue:

In MS Outlook ,Opening hyperlink in an email message you get an error :-

This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

Cause:

Chrome modifying HTML registry values

Note :- Copying the hyperlink directly to the web browser opens fine. "This is not an MS Outlook Issue".

Resolution:

  • Open Registry Editor
  • Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.html 
  • Check the Default Value - Make sure it is set to htmlfile
  • Do the same for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm
  • Check the Default Value - Make sure it is set to htmlfile
  • Re-open Outlook and check the hyperlink

This should work fine !!!
